by George Shultz

erase bad credit like a proI have been teaching others how to repair their credit for several years now. I can't even begin to tell you some of the horror stories that I have heard from my students. The goal of this article is to avoid having to hear any more of those horror stories by teaching you how to erase bad credit yourself.

Im sure that you know by now that having bad credit can be costly. You pay more for everything. I have heard some stories about people who couldnt even rent an important because of their credit. I have heard about people who are paying crazy interest rates just because of their bad credit scores. I could literally go on forever with the tragic stories that I have heard over the years.

Ok class settle down it's time to learn how to erase bad credit like a pro. In order to erase your bad credit you must first have a firm understanding of where you are currently credit wise. Getting your credit report is not only easy, but it's free. Thanks to the Fair Credit Reporting Act every American is entitled to at least one free credit report per year. My recommendation is that you check your credit report twice a year. After all this is your financial future that we are talking about.

At this point you should have three copies of your credit report in your hands. That is you should have a report from all three of the major credit bureaus. Go through each of the credit reports highlighting all of the negative marks that you can find. If for some reason you come across something on your credit report that you do not understand dont hesitate to contact the the bureaus. They are there to assist you, and besides its their job.

Once you have identified the problem areas of your credit report you will need to put together a letter of dispute. Do not try to get fancy with this letter nor should you put it on letterhead. In fact I have personally received better results from a hand written letter than any other strategy that I have tried.

STOP THE PRESSES!!! What I am about to say is extremely important. It is a MUST that you mail your letters of dispute via certified mail. I know it sounds pretty simple but you will be amazed at how many people fail to do this. Keep in mind your certified receipt is the only proof that you have of when you actually sent your letters out.

Once you have mailed off your letters and you have your certified mail receipt in hand - the credit bureaus have 30 days to respond. If for any reason they fail to respond then by law they have to remove the disputed mark(s). A few times I have had them try to challenge the date of my dispute and the only thing that saved me was the fact that I have my certified mail receipt.

Obviously repairing your credit is way beyond the realm of this article, however the information that I have given to you will defiantly get you off to a good start.
